March 7, 2025 – ECDAN’s global childcare campaign shared this blog which profiles the status of childcare in Uganda.
Uganda has made significant progress in strengthening childcare systems and improving outcomes for children. Data from the Uganda Demographic and Health Survey 2016 indicates most children are developmentally on track with 57.9 percent of those aged 3 to 4 years and 69.5 percent of those aged 4 to 5 years meeting developmental milestones in at least three of the four domains of literacy-numeracy, physical, social-emotional, and learning. While the majority of children are on track in the physical (92 percent), learning (86 percent), and social-emotional (65 percent) domains, only a quarter (26 percent) are on track in the literacy-numeracy domain.
