March 7, 2025 – As part of ECDAN’s global childcare campaign, two videos were produced and shared that feature interviews with childcare advocates in Kenya and Uganda.
Immaculate Salaon, Founder and CEO of the Community Initiative Agenda in Kenya and Shanice Kativi, Founder and CEO of Through My Eyes in Kenya, share their journey into caregiving and childcare advocacy. They discuss the motivations behind their work, highlighting the urgent need to support caregivers and ensure quality childcare. Both leaders delve into the challenges caregivers face and emphasize the critical role of supportive policies in enabling parents and caregivers to provide nurturing and responsive care to children.
Daniel Amanyire of Early Years Count Uganda discusses the challenges of childcare policy in the country. With most Ugandans living in rural areas, access to high-quality, affordable childcare remains a major hurdle due to limited funding. Quality childcare is largely privatized, making it unaffordable for many families. He emphasizes the need for the Ministry of Education to provide clearer guidance on childcare and caregiving—defining their roles and fostering collaboration between providers and schools.
