PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity. With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships, and with expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing health challenges.

Launched in 2016 by UNICEF and the World Bank Group, the Early Childhood Action Network (ECDAN) is a global network that connects, gathers, disseminates, and advocates for cross sector solutions to improve the overall wellbeing of young children and families, so that every young child is safe, well-nourished, healthy, happy and learning.

Since its inception in 2016, hundreds of members of the early childhood development (ECD) community have contributed recommendations for the type of network needed by the ECD community to advance the goals of its agenda — moving from science to scale and accelerating progress towards achieving the relevant Sustainable Development Goals for early childhood development.     ECDAN is currently hosted by PATH.

On behalf of ECDAN, PATH is currently recruiting an experienced, resourceful and energetic Sr. Communications Officer to support ECDAN to advocate, facilitate learning and facilitate knowledge exchange and to tell its story more broadly, and convey the impact of ECDAN’s work externally.

The Sr. Communications Officer is an integral member of ECDAN team who will work with its global team members to create and implement ECDAN’s communications strategy and workplan for primarily an external audience including our partners. This position will be filled by a highly competent communications professional who has excellent writing skills in English, sophisticated decision-making abilities, and a flexible,  open and collaborative attitude.


  • Create and execute and support ECDAN communications workplan, including the development of key messaging and content to share insights, contributions, and learning. This includes the production and/or dissemination of briefs, reports, case studies, presentations, fact sheets, talking points, infographics, videos, blog posts, newsletter, social media posts, success stories, and other digital content
  • Partner with team members to identify areas of learning, expertise, impact, and success, and translate this content into compelling communications materials for a variety of external audiences
  • Collaborate with ECDAN team members to develop a core suite of collateral about their work and beneficiaries, including story telling , presentation decks, and other overview materials and reports
  • Support communications about ECDAN’s portfolio of activities, including the implementation of our strategic plan, the Global Initiative to Support Parents, the Global Childcare Campaign, and our Home-based childcare work, among other projects
  • Plan, draft, implement, and monitor social media content and campaigns with the goal of optimizing reach and engagement. Using a strong understanding of various social platforms (including Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube), create and execute on a social media strategy that is tailored to each platform and fits into ECDAN’s broader audience strategy and goals
  • Ensure that all external communications products and activities are in-line with PATH’s and ECDAN’s communications policies; review content to ensure it is on-brand, consistent in style, quality, and tone of voice, and in compliance with donor branding and marking requirements
  • Plan and implement ECDAN webinars and support other knowledge sharing platforms
  • Develop, review, and edit content for ECDAN deliverables, including copyediting and formatting as necessary, to produce high quality documents including ECDAN’s annual report
  • Manage design projects or collaborate on production processes and work with graphic designers, editors, and other vendors on materials requiring professional formats, visualization and involvement
  • Support implementation of a communications training plan for ECDAN’s team and partner organizations, enhancing the collective ability to tell the ECDAN story
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with ECDAN colleagues, donors and ECDAN partners’ communications staff

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field of study that required a substantial amount of writing.
  • A minimum of five years experience working in communications and/or advocacy fields, with a strong track record of making highly technical content accessible to lay audiences while maintaining credibility with the technical community
  • Experience developing and implementing versatile and creative external communications strategies and campaigns for global, regional, and national audiences, including policymakers, implementers, governments, and funders
  • Experience developing multimedia and online communications, including social media, websites, knowledge management and storytelling platforms, etc.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English and a demonstrated capacity to translate sophisticated health and development issues into compelling, persuasive writing
  • Solid graphic design skills including document layout and producing social media graphics and PowerPoint slides
  • Strong interpersonal communication, presentation skills, and relationship-building skills demonstrating a client-centered approach to opportunities
  • Able to work with flexibility, entrepreneurship, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort
  • Balances being extremely detail-oriented with thinking about the big picture in a strategic and creative way
  • Knows and cares about engaging and growing audiences, reaching them where they are and in ways that meet their needs
  • Thrives in an environment in which taking charge of initiatives and targets is key, while getting the support needed
  • Experience in global health communications is required, and experience with USAID projects is highly preferred
  • Self-starter and problem solver.
  • Willingness to work for a startup initiative
  • Enthusiasm for early childhood development is important
  • French and/or Spanish language skills are desirable.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% time annually.

Remote Work:

PATH continues to evolve to support our employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, most of PATH’s US based positions are temporarily 100% remote, within commuting distance to our PATH offices. When PATH transitions more broadly to in-person work, we will operate with a hybrid workplace model. Hybrid employees must reside within commuting distance to one of our PATH offices. PATH’s US offices are located in Seattle, WA and Washington, D.C.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement:

PATH has instituted a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all employees, interns, consultants, and temporary staff based in the United States. Individuals selected for job opportunities in the United States must be fully vaccinated, and show proof of vaccination status, upon hire. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as Pfizer or Moderna, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson. Individuals with medical issues or sincerely held religious beliefs that prevent them from getting the vaccine may request an exemption from the vaccine requirement.
