Children with Disabilities in Eastern and Southern Africa: A statistical overview of their well-being

July 21, 2023 – UNICEF’s latest report, sourced from 128 diverse datasets and incorporating internationally comparable data from four countries – Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, and Zimbabwe – exposes a stark reality for children with disabilities. Despite the commitments of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, children with disabilities in this region continue to be marginalized. Their rights are frequently denied due to a range of challenges, including stigma, lack of accessible services, and institutional barriers, resulting in diminished survival prospects and hindered potential.
