March 2019 – UNICEF has used its Early Childhood Development Kit in programming since 2009. The kits are used to stimulate play and to foster a sense of stability and safety, and to provide children with learning materials. Since then, ECD kits have evolved as the primary service delivery strategy that UNICEF employs to support young children’s right to play and has been integrated into existing ECD programs, mainly as part of an active humanitarian response, but also in post-conflict settings and non-emergency development contexts. This report reviews findings from an impact evaluation done in Senegal and a qualitative evaluation done in Uganda to understand the value of the tool.
