January 2020 – Promundo produced this brief that provides a description of results and lessons learned from the first pilot adaptation of Program P that was implemented in Lebanon. Program P is a direct and targeted response to the need for concrete strategies to engage men in active fatherhood from prenatal care through delivery, childbirth, and their children’s early years. The Program P Toolkit includes a step-by-step guide for creating and launching community campaigns to promote positive, involved caregiving.
The evaluation finds that Lebanese and Syrian men are eager to work together with their partners to learn positive parenting techniques, to talk about manhood, emotions, relationships, and violence, and to become more engaged and supportive fathers and husbands. This brief is program implementers interested in learning more about designing and implementing programs for fathers and couples that utilize gender-transformative approaches to promoting positive masculinities, involved fatherhood, and gender equality. It contains considerations for future adaptations.
