June 16, 2026 – The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) India and Genesis Analytics released a report that examines the growing gap between childcare needs and access for low-income urban families. Drawing on surveys across seven cities, the study identifies trust, affordability, and service quality as the main barriers to childcare access. It calls for coordinated action by government, employers, philanthropy, and civil society to strengthen urban childcare systems, expand access to quality services, and support women’s economic participation.
