May 2023 – The 2023 Joint Child Malnutrition Estimates (JME), released by UNICEF, WHO, and the World Bank, highlight insufficient progress toward the 2025 World Health Assembly (WHA) global nutrition targets and SDG target 2.2. The report found that only about one-third of countries are “on track” to halve the number of children affected by stunting by 2030, while progress could not be assessed for approximately a quarter of countries. Even fewer countries are on course to meet the 2030 target of reducing overweight prevalence to 3 percent, with just one in six currently “on track.” Additionally, nearly half of countries lack sufficient data to assess progress toward the wasting target.
