May 2025 – UNICEF Innocenti has released its Report Card 19 for 2025 that analyzes trends in child well-being over a five-year period relating to the same six key indicators that were in the last report card published in 2020. This includes life satisfaction, adolescent suicide, child mortality, overweight, academic proficiency, and social skills. In this report, 43 countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the European Union (EU) are ranked on children and adolescents’ mental well-being, physical health, and skills. The league table presents a diverse range of strengths and weaknesses. There is room for improvement in all countries, even those at the top of the rankings.
The report also seeks to understand the reasons for these trends and how they can inform actions to improve child well-being. It recommends policy solutions target a whole-childhood approach that will require a shift in thinking and priorities. In addition, the report presents a long-term perspective, looking at trends in key indicators of child well-being since 2000 when the first Innocenti Report Card was published.
